The Farming of Bones is a great novel so far. It has tons of imagery that paints a picture in your head and allows you to see what the author is explaining with words. This author also uses a lot of repetition in her reading to show the importance of it. She uses a lot of repetition when she talks about the death of her parents. It shows how this effects significantly. I look forward to continuing to read this book.

Between the pages 30-32 Danticat starts talking about Juana and a major struggle for her. She’s has a husband, Luis, and she’s been trying to get pregant with him for years but hasn’t been able to. She’s even had a few miscarages. She believes that she cant get prengant because she ran away from her family and her family traditions to be with Luis. She belives that she is cursed. From this you can say that one of the themes in the book is not following your family’s traditions will leave you cursed. Juana might not even be the only person in this book that is cursed because of the failure of not following family tradittions. Amabelle might be cursed as well. Her parents were doctors and they gave birth ti children. Amabelle herself knows how to birth children but refuses to love her home and become a midwife in her own country. Within the book there has been a lot of forshadowing that something bad is goging to happen to Amabelle’s life and that might be so because she didn’t follow her family. This also reminds me of the book Like Water for Chocolate. This book has similar themes to The Farmingof Bones like following family traditions.
